Yemaya is one of the most popular Orisha of the Yoruba pantheon and holds the position of Great Mother. Her name Yey Omo Eja, literally means "Mother Whose Children are the Fish". Mothers and water go hand in hand as both are essential to life, so without Yemaya, life on earth wouldn't be possible. Although she's maternal and nurturing, she is also known to be a fierce a force to be reckoned with.
